Does it integrate with M-Pesa, my bank, or the revenue authority?
No — and we would rather say so here than in your first week. There are no payment, banking or tax-authority integrations today. Receipts are recorded as they arrive — cash, cheque, transfer or mobile money, with the transaction reference — and reconciled against the money account they landed in. VAT and withholding are computed on the fee note and posted to the ledger, ready for your own return.
Are court deadlines calculated automatically?
In Kenya, yes: the rules, the court calendar and public holidays ship and the diary computes hearing and limitation dates from them. In the other 33 jurisdictions the diary runs against dates you record yourself while the rule pack is prepared with counsel admitted there. Borrowing a neighbour's procedure would produce dates that are wrong in kind, not just in number.
Can clients sign documents?
Yes. E-signature is native, not a bolt-on: an envelope wraps a document from the matter it belongs to, takes multiple signers, verifies each one with a one-time code, and files the executed copy back against the matter with a full audit trail. Clients can sign from the client portal.
Does Matterly hold our client money?
Never. Client money stays in your own designated client account. Matterly records and reconciles it — three-way, with overdrawn-matter alerts and a double-entry ledger behind it — and every amount carries its own currency. It does not hold or move a shilling of it.
What happens to the data we already have?
Every plan includes migration and onboarding. Matters, clients, documents and opening balances come across; the ledger starts from balances you confirm, not from a guess.
Is the AI trained on our files?
No. Verity reads your matters, documents, deadlines and ledger entries to answer a question, and cites what it used so you can open the source. Your data is not used to train a model.
